Level 1
NVQ Level 1
This is a mainly practical based course where you will work along side our chefs in our canteen. Units you will cover:

You will benefit from work experience where you will able to put all your newly acquired skills to the test, as well as working in our canteen and on functions.

How will I be taught?
You are taught by a subject expert who has a wealth of experience in catering industry. You will be variety using a variety of different teaching methods to help you achieve: tutorials, independent working & research, practical activities, games and quizzes, we also use moodle and Microsoft Teams to enable you to access your lessons and teaching materials
You will work with real paying clients and have the opportunity to work with employers through guest speakers, educational visits and a work placement. You will be required to wear a chefs uniform whilst in practical lessons and learn the professional standards. You’ll also have the opportunity to achieve your GCSE English and maths if you haven’t already achieved a Grade 4.

Financial Support
The course is free to 16-19 year old learners. A bursary to assist with travel and day to day costs may be awarded dependent on circumstances. A dress code in the kitchen is a clean white chef’s jacket, hat, no jewellery or nail enhancers. You will be expected to provide your own black trousers and flat black shoes. We can also help with purchasing a computer to help you with your studies, and catering equipment such and knife. All ingredients are provided in practical sessions.
For all of our courses, we ask that you have a genuine interest in the course and a desire to work in the catering and hospitality industry. There are no specific entry requirements at level 1.
Level 2: Ideally you will have completed level 1 Introduction into Catering & Hospitality course and/or have a strong profile of GCSE grades at grade 3 or above (including maths and English).
The hospitality industry is made up of thousands of exciting organisations including hotels, restaurants, food service management, fast food, coffee shops and pubs bars and night clubs. The industry rewards the hard work and dedication with wonderful opportunities and career progression is often quicker than in other industries.
Level 1
Once you have experience as a chef you may decide to enter product development, teaching.
Level 2
Katie has over ten years industry experience and has worked in all areas of the catering industry. She has over 5 years teaching experience and has worked at aspire-igen for the last 2 years. Katie is a passionate and supportive tutor and will ensure that you enjoy your learning experience, whilst gaining vital industry-related skills.
